- 5:00 – 6:15 pm: Open house to connect with Mr. Thiessen and visit with alumni
- 6:15 – 7:00 pm: Formal program with emcees Sam Hawkes and Janelle Threlfall
- To follow at 7:30 pm: MEI Sr. Girls Basketball host Robert Bateman Secondary School (in MEI Middle Gym)

Mr. Rick Thiessen • Teaching, Admin & Athletics at MEI Secondary from 1994-2024
After a 30-year career involving teaching, admin and athletics oversight at the school, MEI Secondary Athletics Director (AD), Rick Thiessen, is retiring this June 2024. He has agreed to stay on for up to two years and support our new Athletics Director Sarah Neufeld, in the transition. Question: “How has MEI impacted your life?”
“My time at MEI Secondary began way back in 1975 when I entered grade 8, nearly 50 years ago. As a kid, I was captivated by the sports culture and went to every Senior game I could. Once I decided to become a teacher it was natural to me that I would teach at the Institute. Between high school grad and beginning my career at MEI in 1994, Monika (1982 grad) and I were married and began a family. Once they were old enough, all three of our kids came to school with me and now 4 of our grandkids are here. MEI has shaped my life in more ways than I could imagine, functioning as a focal point of not only the majority of my career but also deep, lasting friendships.
