Senior girls soccer team shines at provincials

The MEI Eagles senior girls soccer team ended the provincials on a high in Kamloops on Saturday.
MEI took down Vancouver’s Notre Dame Jugglers 1-0 to finish seventh in the province, to cap off a solid showing at the AA senior girls provincials for the club.
The Eagles were among 16 teams at the event, and were slotted into Pool B. MEI opened with a 2-1 win over Vancouver’s Crofton House Falcons on Thursday morning, but then fell 6-1 to Burnaby’s St. Thomas More Collegiate Aquinas in the afternoon.
MEI bounced back on Friday with a 3-2 win over the host Sa-Hali Secondary Sabres. The Eagles finished 2-1 in pool play, but then lost 2-1 in the opening playoff round to Port Coquitlam’s Archbishop Carney Stars.
Katie Ward of the Eagles was named to the tournament all-star team.
Victoria’s St. Michaels University defeated West Vancouver’s Collingwood 1-0 in the shootout to win the provincial crown.
