We had a great time at the MEI alumni night / cake social at Sister Act! It was wonderful to welcome back some of our freshest alumni from the class of 2016, through to grads from as early as class of 1956. The opening night performance of MEI Secondary’s feel-good musical comedy smash Sister Act really sparkled. There are still some tickets available, and the musical runs through May 13. Thanks for coming, and we’ll see you next year!

1956 MEI Spring Production “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”
Among our guests were Martha (Spenst) Friesen, who had come with (class of 1956) classmates Elmer Stobbe and Helen (Schroeder) Reilly. Martha had brought along an original copy of the script from the 1956 MEI Spring Production “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, and a scrapbook of pictures. Uncle Tom’s Cabin was the best-selling novel of the 19th century and the second best-selling book of that century, following the Bible. It is credited with helping fuel the abolitionist cause in the 1850s. Martha played the courageous role of “Eliza”, a slave and personal maid who escapes to the North with her five-year-old son Harry after he is sold into slavery, and Helen played Chloe (Uncle Tom’s wife).
