Dr. Elmer Henry Stobbe
January 26, 1936 – January 1, 2019
Elmer graduated from this life to Glory, suddenly at ARH, from a massive heart attack. Surviving are his wife Wilma, of 56 years; children Sandra Benoit (William), of Ottawa; Colin Patrick (Lenora) with Joseph (7) and Alexander (3), Winnipeg. Also surviving, are siblings Les (Rita), North Carolina and Wilma Friesen, Steinbach, MB and Ruth Smith Stobbe. He is predeceased by son Russell (aged 8), parents and siblings Lillian and Vernon.
Elmer was born in Abbotsford, attended South Popular School and MEI (1955 Jr. Matriculation, 1956 Sr. Matriculation). He graduated from UBC and Oregon State University. He was an Agronomist at University of Manitoba for 27 years with a 2 1/2-year stint conducting research in Kenya, also, teaching on sabbatical at UBC.
After retirement, Elmer returned to B.C. working in many countries with CESO (Canadian Executive Services Overseas). He was on the board of Logos Canada for 6 years. In the past 8 years his attention was on BBL (Basotho Building Lesotho) Africa.
At his request, cremation has occurred. A memorial service will be held January 26 (1:00 PM) at South Abbotsford Church (32424 Huntington Road, Abbotsford).

Dr. Elmer Stobbe: Crop scientist turned church planting booster

MEI Schools alum Dr. Elmer Stobbe may be long retired from his career as a professor of crop science at University of Manitoba – but he’s not letting any grass grow under his octogenarian feet.
Mentorship has been a theme of his life, from the mentors he learns from, to the many students and farmers with whom he pioneered zero till on the Prairies, to farmer/entrepreneurs/community developers/church planters he is now supporting in Lesotho.
